Technologies Used in Shot Blasting Machine

Shot blasting machines are used for surface cleaning, preparation, and finishing of materials such as metal, wood, concrete, and composites. Various technologies are employed in shot blasting machines to achieve different surface treatment requirements. Some of the key technologies used in shot blasting machines include:


1. Wheel Blast Technology: Wheel blast machines utilize centrifugal force generated by high-speed rotating wheels to propel abrasive media (such as steel shot, grit, or beads) onto the surface of the workpiece. The abrasive particles impact the surface, removing contaminants, scale, rust, and other imperfections. Wheel blast machines can be further categorized into air blast and wheel blast machines based on the type of propulsion mechanism used.


2. Air Blast Technology: Air blast machines use compressed air to propel abrasive media onto the workpiece surface. These machines typically feature a blast gun or nozzle through which the abrasive media is ejected at high velocity. Air blast technology is often used in portable or manual blasting applications for localized surface treatment.


3. Tumble Blast Technology: Tumble blast machines are designed for batch processing of small to medium-sized workpieces. The workpieces are loaded into a rotating drum or barrel, and abrasive media is continuously circulated within the chamber, impacting the surfaces of the workpieces from all directions. Tumble blast machines are commonly used for deburring, descaling, and surface finishing of components.


4. Spinner Hanger Technology: Spinner hanger machines feature a rotating hook or hanger system that allows workpieces to be suspended and rotated during the blasting process. Abrasive media is propelled onto the workpiece surfaces by one or more blast wheels, providing uniform coverage and efficient cleaning or finishing. Spinner hanger machines are suitable for processing large, irregularly shaped parts.


5. Table Blast Technology: Table blast machines utilize a rotating turntable or indexing table to transport workpieces through the blasting chamber. Abrasive media is projected onto the workpiece surfaces as they pass through the blast zone, achieving consistent and thorough cleaning or finishing. Table blast machines are commonly used for batch processing of small to medium-sized parts.


6. Shot Peening Technology: Shot peening is a specialized surface treatment process used to improve the fatigue strength and resistance to stress corrosion of metal components. Shot peening machines utilize controlled blasting parameters (such as media size, velocity, and coverage) to induce compressive residual stresses on the surface of the workpiece, thereby enhancing its mechanical properties.


These are some of the primary technologies used in shot blasting machines, each offering specific advantages and suitability for different applications and workpiece sizes. The choice of technology depends on factors such as the desired surface finish, material type, production volume, and automation requirements.
